The Pragmatic Programmer: From Journeyman to Master Review by D. Jackson

One of the two best books for software developers

I wish that every new developer we hire had read this book and McConnnell's Code Complete. Between them, they're the knowledge that college degrees in CS don't give you, but that is invaluable knowledge in actually coding for hire.

I'm on my fifth or sixth copy of the Pragmatic Programmer now, as I tend to give them out to anyone fresh out of college and/or willing to read.
