The Art of Assembly Language Review by Daniel McKinnon

Great Assembly Language Teaching Tool

First things first, many of the reviews on here are negative towards the author and content because what is being used is not traditional assembly language. This is true, but the author makes it very clear that he is using a different type of assembly language that is his own. The point of the book is to drive home CONCEPTS and techniques and this book does this very well. Written in a efficient style but the author, and easy to learn from, I feel this is a great resource for anyone that wants to learn what assembly language is, and how it works. I was a computer science student in the early/mid 90s before Java became hot, .NET existed, or the web was what it is today. Even back then, Assembly was hard to follow and difficult to use. Now with Visual Studio and the like, I feel that assembly is a lost art, and a book like this fits a niche that any competent programmer needs to understand.

One of my college professors sometimes used rare languages and tools to TEACH and that is what this book is. If the author is clear that this isn't straight x86 assembly (which he is), then I feel this book does the job as advertised.
