Although not cover Internet development, this title worth giving a tutorial on traditional MFC programming. After some basic MFC, the book looks at Graphical Device Interface (GDI) graphics with a fine discussion of drawing and font handling. Following this, Prosise introduces the use of MFC collection classes (an alternative to STL) and file I / O, as well as adding serialization support to a special class. He also dedicates a lot of text to the basic Windows controls and dialog boxes. As in the first edition, Prosise introduction to MFC multithreading and synchronization objects (like mutexes) is prominent. The last part of this book provides a comprehensive discussion of COM and ActiveX programming for MFC developers. Although the Active Template Library (ATL) is ignored here, there are examples of building and using ActiveX controls, including the basics of OLE automation. New revised with rich examples and the latest Windows functionality, the second edition of Programming Windows with MFC provides one of the best available tutorials for traditional MFC development.
