One is that I now write a few books to do with incident response and forensic analysis on Windows systems, and I use Perl a lot in both books. This book is intended for anyone who has an interest in useful Perl scripting, especially on Windows platform, for the purpose of incident response and forensic analysis, and monitoring applications. This book contains information useful to consultants who perform incident response and computer forensics, especially for activities related to MS Windows systems (Windows 2000, XP, 2003, and some of Vista). Perl scripts can be run from the point of central management, to reach the remote system to collect information, or they can be "compiled" into an executable standalone using PAR, PerlApp, or Perl2Exe so that they can be run on systems that do not have the distribution of ActiveState's Perl (or distribution of Perl, etc.) installed. * Perl Scripting for Computer Forensic Analysis Perl is a very useful and powerful to conduct forensic computer analysis. This is where the use of Perl really shines through and becomes clear. * Perl Scripting for Monitoring Applications Working with enterprise-level Windows applications requires a lot of analysis and constant monitoring.
