The nature of technology has changed since Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) is conceptualized as a research community and Interactive Learning Environments was originally developed. However, in order to exploit this potential for greater flexibility we need to understand the model and learners and the context in which they interact in a way that allows us to design, implement and evaluate technologies to support learning most effectively in some locations, subject and time.
