The term "photomechanics" describes a set of experimental techniques that use optical (photo) for studying problems in mechanics. However, an approach that does not fit all, and subtle variations in technique and methods have been developed by different groups working on specific applications. This primer allows the user to start with their experimental analysis quickly. This can be easily scripted, along with the necessary mathematical expressions, for a particular experimental technique. This book provides an introduction to several optical techniques, and then introduces MATLAB routines for image processing in experimental mechanics.
