KAME, de-facto open-source reference implementations of IPv6 standards, played a crucial role in the acceptance and adoption of IPv6 technology. This book is the first and only of its kind, which reveals all the details of the KAME IPv6 protocol stack, explaining what each line of code, and why it was designed like that. Through the second surgery and code design, the authors illustrate how IPv6 and related protocols have been interpreted and implemented from the specification. He was a core developer of the KAME project in 2001 until the end of the project and develop Mobile IPv6/NEMO Basic Support protocol stack. She is now working on the new mobility stack (the SHISA stack) for BSD operating systems. IPv6 Core Protocols Implementation addresses with technical depth and clarity of the implementation of IPv6 in the University of California Berkeley Source Code Distribution (BSD), from the KAME project based in Japan, which both commercial and academic success in the market world wide network implementation. The book begins with an overview of the KAME project and source code distribution, and then provide a brief, but thorough description of the BSD network implementation. Then the book provides architectural and implementation code for IPv6 basic components added to the current BSD TCP / IP Internet Protocol layer code base, the implications of changes to the Transport Layer, and then provides a review of changes to the BSD Socket Interface for IPv6 applications. The authors do an excellent job of representing the application source code and it is easy to read and comprehend, with discussion for each presentation of the program from the basic code functions and data structures. This book will benefit both network architects and programmers who have to absorb and understand the implementation of IPv6 in the implementation / IP and TCP network reference model. CTO IPv6 Forum www.ipv6forum.com ~ Jim Bound. * Includes a snapshot version of KAME dated April 2003, based on FreeBSD 8.4 * Extensive line-by-line code listings with meticulous explanation of their rationale and use for KAME snapshot implementation, which generally applies to most of the latest version of KAME IPv6 stack is included in the latest release of the BSD variants Many diagrams and illustrations * assist in visualizing the execution * In-depth discussion of the standards provides intrinsic understanding of the specification * Two CD-ROMs filled with the complete KAME IPv6 protocol stack and FreeBSD software
