Since the beginning of the original back in 1989 the Web has turned into an environment where Web applications ranging from small-scale information dissemination applications, often developed by non-IT professionals, to large-scale, commercial-business planning and scheduling applications, developed by a multidisciplinary team of people with diverse skills and backgrounds and using cutting-edge, diverse technologies. As an engineering discipline, Web engineering should provide the principles, methodologies and frameworks to help professionals and researchers developing Web applications and manage projects effectively. After introduction into the discipline itself and its intricacies, contributions ranged from an estimated enterprise Web, and productivity benchmarking methodology and conceptual model-based application development, to other important principles such as usability, reliability, testing, process improvement and quality measurement.
