In the 80s, Tracy Kidder, The Soul of a New Machine tries to define the story of the development of minicomputers: the new science to business and nascent culture of electronic hardware and software that is characteristic of that time. Scott Rosenberg's Dreaming in the Act refers to Kidder's model as it attempted to document the state of software, Internet, and about the year 2006 everything through the lens of Chandler, who has not-as-unfinished software application for managing personal information. The Chandler project - driven by Mitch Kapor, founder of Lotus Development and main author of the 1-2-3 spreadsheet, and then co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation - isn't the primary point of Dreaming in the Act, even though reading about software people and their social behavior at least as interesting to read about that the meerkats or monkeys. Instead, Chandler is a rhetorical device with which Rosenberg takes the big question: How does software development teams work (or not)?
