Location-based Services (LBS) is a new concept of integrating the user's geographical location with a general idea of services, such as dialing the emergency number from the phone or use the navigation system in the car. The purpose of this book is to describe, in a way that is accessible, the various concepts underlying mobile location-based services. This book defines the field of LBS and identify the capabilities, challenges, and technology. Contributors are recognized experts from academia and industry. Coverage includes navigation system, middleware, interoperability, standards, and mobile communications. An application example, the "find friends" application, used throughout the book to integrate the concepts discussed in each chapter.
