When managers and ecology must make decisions about the environment, they use the model to simulate dynamic systems that interest them. Open-source Spatial Modeling Environment (SME) has been developed to build a common modeling software, such as STELLA (R), and Powersim (R), among others, to create, run, analyze, and present spatial models of ecosystems, watersheds, population, and landscapes.
