If patterns are good ideas that can be re-applied to new situations, AntiPatterns: Refactoring Software, Architectures, and Projects in Crisis see what goes wrong in software development, time and time again. This text is entertaining and often enlightening defines what experienced developers have long suspected: despite advances in software engineering, most software projects still fail to meet expectations - and about a third was canceled altogether. The authors then proceed to determine antipatterns oriented management problems with the software (including Death by Project Planning and error, along with some miniature antipatterns, which helps determine why so many software projects late and Overbudget). The author uses the technology of several vendors' as an example antipatterns today. A bidder's smart to get too optimistic about software development, AntiPatterns should be required reading for every manager faces large-scale project development.
