The main objective was to characterize the process of visual categorization and search for suitable representation format that can successfully deal with the structural variability in the visual category. This book reviews past and existing theories of visual object and shape recognition in the field of computers, neuroscience and psychology of vision. The entire range of calculations are discussed, such as for example the contour extraction in the retinal circuit, the determination of orientation in the cortex, the position and shape of scale independence, and the issue of representation of objects and forms in neural substrate. It is discussed how the network can be used to build basic-level representation of the object.
