Internet Protocol (IP) multicasting, generally speaking, describes the technology by which content providers can "transmit" packets to the network TCP / IP, which then routes the packet to the client node that you want to accept them. In the IP Multicasting, Marcus Goncalves and Kitty Niles detail the state and direction of this new technology. Although some readers may feel that this book started out very basic - with another exploration of the network topology and the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model - others will appreciate the start on familiar ground. The authors include both IGMPv1 and IGMPv2. Before detailing the relative merits of the product that you can use to implement IP multicasting, this book explores the characteristics and use different protocols higher lever. You'll find coverage of Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), Adaptive Reliable Multicasting Protocol (RAMP), and others.
