The authors have cataloged the pattern of collecting a few dozen J2EE from Sun Microsystems and online resources. The tendency for each book on software patterns is to dissolve into the jargon of software engineering, and you would expect this title to do the same thing given the abstract name for the many patterns that are listed at the beginning (for example, "Intercepting Filter," "See Helper, "and" Service-to-Workers "is not interesting names). While the authors do provide "official" description of UML and patterns for these patterns J2EE, real surprise is that they use some more case studies to showcase each pattern in action. Patterns to improve performance and scalability are illustrated with travel booking application. In each case, the authors succeeded in introducing a number of important patterns while retaining their presentation with a discussion of practical and interesting real applications. This approach makes this title success at several levels, both in presenting the main patterns and show how the designs often work together in real web solutions. The end result is a text on the pattern of software that provides some of the best thinking on J2EE design today in a format that is very readable and interesting.
