First, this is an introduction to the Perl language for those new to programming, as well, this is a guide for those who come from other languages, and, finally, the Perl language reference. Among Larry Wall's other pursuits is being a linguist, and it is probably for this reason that Perl is a special language that is flexible with lots of routes to achieve the same goal, as a writer with the ability to show. Also, because it is largely interpreted, programs written in Perl tends to be modified to run on multiple platforms - although platform-specific Perl modules and programming practices are also discussed. The main strength of Programming Perl is the way subjects approached from several directions. Because the Perl community is both broad and active, this language covers more ground here than in previous editions.
