Raymond argues in The Art of UNIX Programming that the excellence comes as much from the fact that Unix was (and continues to be) the efforts of society as from the fact that many smart people have worked to design and build it. It aims to show new Unix programmers why they must work under the "ethical hacker" long - embracing the principles of good software design for self-interest and code-sharing. Very little of it is in the form of code, most of the practical material takes the form of case studies and discussions on aspects of Unix, all aimed at determining why particular design characteristics are good. This book is for software developers to think in advance on Unix (and perhaps Linux in particular) Wall. - David Topics covered: Why Unix (the term is defined to include Linux) is the way it is, and people who make like that.
