Information Visualization: Perception for Design explores the art and science of why we see things the way we do. Although more technical than most graphic design books, books "are intended to make [data from science and the study of visualization] is available to non-specialists." Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of human vision, such as "Lightness, Brightness, Contrast, and Constancy" in chapter 3, or "Static and Moving Patterns" in chapter 4. Although the author tries to put a lot of scientific research data into pedestrian terms, the nature and subject matter of the newspaper where he remains of his son took the job information uphill battle from the beginning. Seriously interface designer, designer presentations, data analysis, or the artist tasked with presenting ideas in a visual format, though, should come away from Information Visualization with a clearer understanding about the workings of perception.
