Style is a fundamental aspect and everywhere of human experience: All the people directly and constantly judge people and things that match the style of each, academics build careers by examining the style of music, art, or architecture, and the entire industry defend itself by continually creating and marketing a new style. But what exactly is the style and the way it works is difficult to understand: We'll know when we see it, but there is no common and clear understanding of various phenomena which we call style. Structure Style explores this issue from the viewpoint of computation, in terms of how information is represented, organized, and transformed in the production and perception of different styles. The final section, Interactions, related to the mutual interaction between producers and perceivers style, in areas such as interactive media, music improvisation, and play games. Style structure was written for researchers and practitioners in fields including information retrieval, computer art and music, digital humanities, computational linguistics and artificial intelligence, all of which can benefit from a comprehensive review and in-depth description of the currently active interdisciplinary research field.
