The emergence of battery-operated, low cost and portable computers such as palmtops and PDAs, coupled with the availability and exploitation of wireless networks, has enabled the potential for ubiquitous computing. Through wireless networks, portable devices will become an integrated part of existing distributed computing environments, and mobile users can have access to data stored on the server information is located on the static part of the network even when they are on the move. To overcome these limitations, there has been proliferation of research efforts on designing the mechanisms for sending data to more effectively support wireless computing.
