Building performance object-oriented software development, the CBD aims to provide software engineering from a cottage industry into the age of the Information Technology industry, where software can be assembled from components, in a way that the current system hardware is built from kit parts. This volume provides a survey of the current state of the CBD, as reflected in the activities that have occurred recently under the banner of the CBD, with a view to provide a pointer to future trends.
