Although the system self-adaptation has been studied in various disciplines, from biology to robotics, only recently has the software engineering community recognized the important role in enabling the development of future software systems that can self-adapt to changes that may occur in the system, requirements , or the environment in which it is used. Also included in this book is a roadmap invited paper on the research challenges facing the self-adaptive systems in the field of software engineering, based on discussions at the Dagstuhl Seminar and united by some participants.
